Just one week left until my family comes out to get me and take me home for the summer and to say that I am excited is quite an understatement. I mean, it's been great here, a great year, but I want to get home and just get everything in my life straightened out and spend time with all my family and friends that I love. It's been a tough past week getting bad news about a sick family member but all of my friends have been there to keep me going so that's great. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and getting myself into shape, as well as recording some music with Gregory, because that's going to be a good time too. I've taken some steps into getting myself back in shape, working out and running daily, eatting good, and a huge step is that I've stopped drinking heavily which is really hard when you go to a top 5 party school, but it's all about will power, and instead of going out drinking, I've played my guitar, so I am writing a good amount of songs which I look forward to working on with Greg and recording as well. Playing music with Greg is just one of those things in life that's always been there. Me and him have been playing music since our sophomore year in high school which is now been 5 years already. I don't really know where the time goes, but I'm glad we still maintain the friendship and play music together. It feels like home when I go over there with my guitar and whoop it out and we jam together, it's just what we do.
Ok, enough with the sappy shit...I've been working on my top 100 favorite songs of all time and it is really really hard. It's a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Lately, I've been reading the autobiography of Anthony Kiedis entitled "Scar Tissue" and it is amazing. For those who actually read this but don't know who Anthony Kiedis is, he is the lead singer of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers. To say his life was normal, that could not be more wrong. He's been everywhere and done everything, played music all over the world, drugs, women, all that shit. He is now one of the most down-to-earth people and very intelligent. He actually went to UCLA but left to persue his music career. And while I have been listening to them, they have so many great meaningful songs that mean more to him than anyone else. He's lost his best friend to drugs and that was when he decided to clean up and get off drugs and stop drinking. His story is really inspiring.
I got off topic, back to my 100 favorite songs...I'm still working on it, and I think that I finally got a top 10 but I am really not sure, so I am only going to put the top 5 on here -
1 - Blink-182 - Emo
2 - Taking Back Sunday - Your Own Disaster
3 - New Found Glory - Sucker
4 - Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You
5 - Blink-182 - Not Now
Obviously Blink-182 holds the number 1 spot as they are my favorite band of all time. So I realized that an easy way to figure out my top 100 songs is to make a huge list of songs I like and just go by process of elimination. It is really hard and I'm sure that Blink-182 will occupy about 25 of those spots, haha, but it should actually be fun to do.
Today when I was playing guitar, I broke a pick because I was rocking so hard, and that's actually a good feeling to just see a piece of a pick go flying (as long as it doesn't hit me in the eye) to know that the music is there and means that much that I was playing so much. The song I broke it during was "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters which is definitely a rocker. But that's all that's really been new in the past couple of days with me since I've written in here last and I'm actually making an effort to write in here when shit happens so I remember it and I'm not just reviewing new C.D.'s and shit. So, until next time...
